Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that we are learning, living and working on the unceded and unsurrendered Territories of the Anishinaabe Algonquin People. We remember that we are guests on this land. As architectural practitioners, we understand that the health of the land and its people are necessary for the happiness and well-being of all who live here. We are thankful for the beauty of the rivers and forests which are woven into our city and lives, giving us sanctuary, joy and refreshment. We acknowledge that we have not built or used these resources with care or justice, as stewards of the earth. We have not shared their gifts with others equitably, as the Algonquin Nations have offered to and continue to share with us.

We are striving to learn how to create in a relationship with the land, that seeks balance. We further wish to acknowledge that the wisdom, knowledge and understanding that the Algonquin First Nations of this territory grow and share with us are continued gifts to us and to the land. We wish to move forward as shapers of the built world by listening to and learning from the peoples of this land, acknowledging our history of colonialism, as settlers and guests to this beautiful place and engage in continued work to achieve the well-being of all people of this land and the health of the land itself. We must do this, if justice, health and therefore beauty is to be achieved.
We must acknowledge this as persons and in our work as an architectural practice, as we strive to create for the care of others.
